Southcentral Region: Celebration of Leadership
On Friday, February 5th, southcentral Pennsylvania braced itself against the approaching snowstorm. But not even the threat of more than a foot of snow was enough to keep our supporters from an event which raised money to support our programs while honoring one of "The World's Most Influential People" - Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Company's president and CEO. Mr. Mulally was the special guest at the LB Smith Ford Lincoln Mercury Second Mile "Celebration of Leadership 2010," a flagship event honoring distinguished business leadership and social responsibility in American enterprise.
While this event was to honor Mr. Mulally, many feel that he honored us with his presence. After a private meeting with the event's top sponsors, Mr. Mulally mingled with all of the guests (nearly 500 of them!) during the pre-dinner cocktail reception. During his presentation, he informed and entertained. He spoke of his history with Boeing and Ford and talked about testifying before Congress. To the delight of the audience, he fielded questions from the crowd.
The evening was full of many spectacular moments, with the first being our National Anthem sung by Courtney Roy, a senior at Cedar Cliff High School. What an incredible voice she has! Another fabulous young lady, Messiah College sophomore Leigh McCauley, told the audience how The Second Mile helped her to grow from a troubled child to the self-assured young woman she is today.
