Spring Internships - Sample Task List
Prevention Programs
PEAK (Prevention: Education and Awareness for Kids)
- Assist in new program development - research issues, develop bibliography, create guide pages
Nittany Lion Tips
- Write and edit Tips
- Begin design of the Fall Facilitator's Guide
- Write thank you notes when the project is completed
Leadership Institute
- Contact and recruit schools for conference
- Create and complete binders for conference
- Assist in implementation of conference, from procuring supplies, to Registration, set-up, room coordination
- Serve as a chaperone (evenings and possibly overnight)
Early Intervention Programs
Challenge Program
- Communicate with school counselors and parents via phone, email, and mail
- Design and produce monthly mailings, including the "Mile Extra" newsletter
- Maintain data of address, phone, and school changes of participants and counselors
- Monitor participants' progress in meeting goals set at residential weeks
- Process participant applications, permission slips, and other forms related to registration
- Assist in the planning of mid-year activities for the participants. Responsibilities
include:
- Communication with families and volunteers by phone and mail
- Designing fliers and/or posters
- Writing press releases
Friend Program
- Plan and organize events, including contacting student groups to sponsor the events
- Maintain contact with both Young Friends and their families and College Friends regarding the event schedule
- Process Young Friend and College Friend Applications
- Create and mail event flyers
Friend Fitness Program
- After training, provide backup for adult volunteers who are not able to participate in workout sessions
- Maintain database of participants and adult volunteers, including registration information, contact information, and program attendance
Community-Based Programs
Foster Family Support
- Assist in the planning activities such as award banquets, egg hunts, and theatre performances
- Specific responsibilities may vary according to the event, but the following are examples:
- Requesting donations
- Communicating with Children & Youth Agencies
- Assisting with registration of families at the event
- Designing fliers and posters
- Staffing events
Children's Fund
- Prepare Post-Secondary Scholarship Mailing
- Research other community organizations to determine if funding for a specific need may be available from another source
General Program
- Create/develop ideas for Centre Daily Times Fathering Column
- Attend various community meetings, and do related work, e.g. Communities that Care, Centre Alliance for Healthy Relationships, Centre County Fathering Consortium, etc.
