Letter from the Founder

This is an exciting new venture for our organization, and we hope to make everyone aware of the work we do with children. Whether you're a guidance counselor, a parent, or someone who wants to help children needing additional support and guidance, The Second Mile Web Site will provide you with the information you need.
The Second Mile began as a dream of mine many years ago, when young people who came from difficult circumstances and weren't doing well, began, with our help, to grow and change into productive citizens. The agency was an outgrowth of my own home, which included six adopted children, foster children, and fresh-air kids. Today, with the help of a small, but committed staff, as well as hundreds of volunteers and donors, The Second Mile provides nine prevention, early intervention and community-based programs to more than 100,000 children across Pennsylvania.
The Second Mile offers these programs at no cost to school-aged children and their families. We're able to do so through the generous private support of many individuals, businesses, clubs, foundations, and through special events. Our goal is to teach children how they can make a difference in their own lives and in their communities. The Second Mile provides opportunities for young people to learn about the importance of academics, family and peer relationships, goal-setting, and community service projects. Your gift of time, talent, or financial support will help The Second Mile's efforts to instill these important lessons in our most important resource - our children.
Again, thanks for joining us on our web site - we hope you enjoy learning more about The Second Mile and our mission to provide children with help and hope.
