History
In its first year, The Second Mile helped 45 State College children. Now, The Second Mile provides its nine prevention, early intervention, and community-based programs and services to more than 100,000 children annually who hail from all counties in Pennsylvania.
The Second Mile's programs and services are provided free to all Pennsylvania children. There is no dependency or reliance on federal, state, or county funding to provide programming. Private support comes from the Commonwealth and beyond through individuals, businesses and corporations, foundations, clubs and organizations, and through special event sponsorship contributions.
Since 1977, The Second Mile has followed the path of its founder, Jerry Sandusky, to help Pennsylvania's children achieve their potential as individuals and community members by providing them with opportunities to develop self-esteem.
