Employment Opportunities
The Second Mile provides two specific employment opportunities:
Full-time or Part-time Professional Employment
As opportunities arise for full/part-time employment in any one of our
three offices, located in State College, Camp Hill, or King of Prussia,
PA, those opportunities will be posted on this website. Generally, those
opportunities will occur in one of three areas:
- Program - those staff members working
to develop, implement, and assess our services to children, families
and professionals.
- Development - those staff members working
to secure financial support for programs through such vehicles as major
gifts solicitation, planned giving, special events, and grant writing.
- Administration - those staff providing
organizational or regional oversight or support.
Seasonal Program Employment
Positions as a camp counselor in our Summer Challenge Programs are open
to mature high school graduates with a minimum of one-year of post-high
school education or full-time work experience who successfully complete
our interview, screening, and pre-camp training. One of the most significant
aspects of working in this position for The Second Mile is the professional
and personal nurturance and mentoring that our staff and office provide.
We are constantly humbled by the number of staff who comment that their
tenure with The Second Mile in this capacity has been life-altering, an
experience that has caused a change in professional direction or profound
professional growth as well as has had immeasurable personal impact. Historically,
we fill entry-level, full-time program staff positions internally - through
our interactions with individuals who serve as camp counselors, College
Friends, or program interns.
